Felix Mendelssohn – O come everyone that thirsteth (Elijah)
Inspired by the choral works of Bach and Handel, Mendelssohn composed in 1846 his oratorio Elijah, from which the Dulwich Singers are singing a quartet. It premiered in the same year at the Birmingham Festival. It depicts events in the life of the Biblical prophet Elijah, taken from the books 1 Kings and 2 Kings of the Old Testament.
“O come everyone that thirsteth, O come
to the waters… O hear, and your souls shall
live for ever.”
